Adding Board Positions
Part 3 - Adding Board Positions
IRL (in real life), your board has executive positions with roles and responsibilities. You are probably filling one of these positions now. Each position also has a limited term. Most volunteer boards fill these positions with a 2-year term and typically on or around the annual general meeting. To support continuity of the board, board positions have different term end dates to prevent a complete turnover of the board.
Do you know the positions, roles and responsibilities of the board you are on? Do you know where to find this information for your board? If asked, how would you share it with others? Would you be able to find and use this information to recruit new board members to replace those whose terms are ending?
With OMyBoard, you can confidently answer "Yes" to all the above questions. Let's get started!
OMyBoard provides 5 typical board positions and their roles and responsibilities:
- President
- Past President
- Vice President
- Treasurer
- Secretary.
If these positions do not fit your board's executive positions, you are free to add your own, either in addition to the provided positions or instead of these provided positions.
The quickest and easiest way to get started is to add generic board positions from the Create Board Positions panel. You can get to this panel from the board management menu by selecting Board Positions:
From this panel, you can add individual and unique board positions, or select the "Add Generic Board Positions" button to create all 5 positions and their responsibilities/duties automatically.
The generic board positions automatically fill in the description and term duration, defaulted to 24 months. Of course, you are able to change the term position duration to any number of months between 6 and 36.
Along with the board positions, OMyBoard also creates matching board position duties. Feel free to explore the board positions and duties and make changes to the descriptions to better suite your boards' needs.
You can return to the Board Positions page at any time and make any changes as required.
Returning to the dashboard, you'll see the Board Positions and their tenure end. Note that this date is set 24 months from when the generic position was created and will likely not align with your board position term end dates. Don't worry, though. This will be updated when we add board members into the roles.Next up - Part 4 - Inviting Board Members
